The last 13 years I have spent living in the desert of Phoenix, Arizona. Between living with my parents, attendning college, living in a town home and renting apartments there hasn’t been a yard with grass for me to mow.

The townhome front yard was cared for by the HOA and the back yard was 6 tons of 1/2″ gravel with a few trees and plants. Moving to Camdenton Missouri has changed all of this. Our new home has maybe a 1/2 acre or more of yard to maintain, much of it grass or weeds. So it was time for another trip to Home Depot to pick up a trusty lawn mower.

We settled on a Toro self propelled mower, coined the Recycler. It is a 22″ blade with a Briggs and Stratton Engine. We picked it up on a Saturday morning and had it home and ready to go after some lunch. The assembly was simple, no tools required. Poured in the oil and some gas and wheeled it out to the yard to start her up. The mower started up on the first try and every try since. I was able to get the back mowed without incident, the front took two passes since the grass had grown several inches in places. By the end of the second pass I was mowing in the rain.

It’s been a few days and the grass, I mean weeds, could use another mowing and the side yard and driveway area really could use some attention from the weed wacker. I don’t think I will be going more than 7 days without some sort of yard maintance now that we live in a place that gets more rain in a day than we used to see in a year. Works for me. I have an empty garage that needs to be filled with toys, I mean tools.
